I have two different 390/406 heads I can use to rebuild my 390 engine. I want to use the heads that will provide the most compression. The first set has a casting number of C3AE6090C and I understand they are for a 63 406 engine. The specification also say that they are 56.4 CC’s. The second set has a cast number of C1AE6090A and they are for a 61-63 390 engine. The specification say that they are 71 CC’s. Both heads use the same valves but is the 56.4 CC heads higher compression?

Smaller the combustion chamber equals higher compression which can give you detonation problems with todays shit gas

I have a set of FE heads in my shop for repair. The casting number on them is EDC 6090E. Can someone please help me find out what these heads are for. They seem to have smooth machined combustion chambers rather than cast finish. The code under the valve covers is 7BS. Thanks

The heads you have are off a 1958 , and a few 1959 332 and 352 engines , they are easily identified because they do have the ridge across the top of the ex. ports , they are flat there , and the chambers are you, Jimmy
